Volume 1: Introduction to Car Design and Drawing.
When designing automobiles, the ability to sketch well is absolutely essential. The skill of showing a design on paper enables the designer to communicate with others. In a step-by-step demonstration Harald will share his approach to quick sketching, design strategy, styling tips, and the process he takes to finalize a design direction. He concludes with the execution a final line drawing that presents a dynamic view of his vehicle.
Volume 2: Digital Automotive Rendering
There are many ways to render an automobile. Harald will take you through the steps to render an automobile with Adobe Photoshop through the use of paths, layering colors, surfacing and highlights. You will see his strategy for layer building, shading the form in color, rendering wheels, and background design. The end result of this demonstration is a quick but powerful color rendering executed with a digital medium.
Volume 3: Integrating a Vehicle into an Environment
This demo deals with the integration of a rendered vehicle into a city environment. This is a basic step-by-step of how to render a vehicle, set up a photo of a cityscape, and integrate the vehicle so that it looks like it is truly in the scene. This is not a full-blown matte painting, but a quick way to show how vehicles are rendered and placed for a motion picture application…quick and powerful, with dramatic lighting.
Volume 4: Car Design and Presentation
The ability to design a car is not something anyone can just pick up by taking a class or drawing for a few weeks. It requires a serious amount of dedication and many hours of practice. Harald will take you step-by-step through his design process and give you a look into the complexity and challenges of designing a vehicle similar to the one he designed for Minority Report. In addition, he will also introduce one of the cars he designed for Hotwheels®, and take you through each step of its design process. At the end of the lecture he quickly renders a car’s side-view within Adobe Photoshop®, and shows some of the many tricks he uses to complete a powerful presentation of the design.
Volume 5: Prop Design and Presentation
Over his long career, Harald Belker has designed many props and products for the film and video game industries. In this lecture he will share his techniques for ideation sketching, choosing the right tools, and preparing a quick yet professional presentation. In addition, he will walk you through the process of designing a handheld device and a futuristic weapon. His personal preferences for materials, ergonomics, line quality and shape will be of help to anyone who is interested in the field of prop design.
